Verrucae And Wart Treatments

There are many different options available for the treatment of verruca.  Firstly, avoid scratching a verruca as it may spread. Instead, cover it up with a plaster. Evidence has shown that, in many cases, the body’s own immune system will fight the verrucae naturally and will disappear on their own, within six months for children but can take longer for adults (up to two years). If painless, no treatment may be required.  If the verrucae are painful and/or unsightly or long standing you may consider treatment.

Always seek advice If you are concerned regarding a verruca or wart or are unsure of a lesion on the foot.

This reduces the overlying thickened tissue of verruca.  It is usually completely painless and provides relief from discomfort caused by the build-up of hard skin.  During the procedure bleeding often occurs, this is normal, there is a theory that the bleeding may stimulate an immune response which can eradicate the verruca.

Verrutop is a treatment unique to trained podiatrists. It is better than over the counter treatments. A topical solution that contains Nitri-zinc Complex. It is painless and quick to apply and causes a chemical reaction with the verruca. This chemical reaction kills the verruca and wart tissue by breaking its protein structure.  Over time, it causes a painless mummification of the damaged verruca tissue.   As the cells renew and the new healthy skin forms, the wart/verruca detaches automatically leaving the underlying skin intact. Verrutop is suitable for adults and children over 6 years old.

The overlying hard skin is removed first with a scalpel. After this, the Verrutop solution is applied a few times and left to dry, this is usually painless, but some individuals may report a temporary slight stinging or burning sensation to the area that quickly subsides.

Verrutop aims to shrink the verruca over a course of treatments. 4-6 sessions are usually required. Verrutop is best suited for small, raised verruca/warts, or smaller more superficial verruca.

K laser therapy is an innovative, safe, and efficient treatment option for stubborn verruca with a very high clearance rate and is suitable for patients of all ages.

K-Laser’s High Energy Tip eliminates verruca / warts by activating the immune response and cauterising the infected tissues at the same time:

It targets the blood vessels that supply the verruca, heating them and sealing them off.

K-Laser treatment. For the most part it is not painful, with an occasional hot sensation similar to a hot pin prick, that dissipates within few seconds.

K-Laser is currently demonstrating a 90% success rate for verruca elimination.

A course of 2 to 3 treatments are usually required.

This is a minor surgical procedure that requires the area to be numb and so is performed under a local anaesthetic.  The procedure involves the verruca being punctured with a needle multiple times through the full depth of the lesion into the subcutaneous tissue.  This is thought to push the viral particles deeper into the tissues where the body’s immune cells are located helping the body detected the virus more efficiently, thus stimulating an immune response to eradicate the virus.  This procedure is a highly successful method used to treat verrucae.  Patients experience very little post op pain, and the area heals up fully after a few days.  In some cases, a second procedure may be required. This procedure is not suitable for everyone.
